Ways To Securely Put Up Your LED Christmas Lights
Many people get nervous when they begin to think about putting in their LED Christmas lights for the season. It's often a work that's left always late to work on, and when the weather is being colder and wetter each day, it doesn't have really to be a task. Here are a few ideas coming from an installation expert, who has his own LED Christmas lights installation firm based in San Francisco, California.
If you decide to staple the lighting in your house, use a wire tacker instead of a standard stapler. Ordinary staples will cut the protective coating, possibly detrimental to the wires, and increase threat of a short circuit. Wire tacker staples are usually u-shaped and allow to leave a little room for the twisted wire cable, ensuring your wires to remain in good condition. Staple the wire about 1" from each side of the light. This will ensure it stands out straight and all the lights appear the same, making a much neater look when ever the job is done.
When you string your lights along the rooftop, go a few feet around every side of the building. This enables a much cleaner look.
If you prefer not to leave staple creases in the surface of your home, use non-invasive clips. They're simple, cheap, and attach lights onto gutters or beneath shingles fast and easily. You'll need one per light bulb.
When suspending lights, don't staple or hang them directing up if at all possible. Water will get in, possibly shorting the wires. Point them towards the outer area instead.
Use electrical tape to seal the male/female plugs together between each strand. This will keep water out and assure your lights stay brilliant all through the season.
When suspending lights on trees, use a quality painting pole with a hook attached to the end. I bought a small replaceable paint roller that screws on to the end of the pole. I cut the roller off the hook, then warped the wire into a "V". It works well. I tried using actual "LED Christmas lights hanging sticks" offered in stores, but they are very cheaply designed, bend or break quickly, and when the pole gets wet, don't lock in an extended position.
Wrapping trunks by using mini-light can look amazing, especially with about a 4" spacing, but uses a lot of lights. When you do this, enclose your strands in a sphere, then pass it around the trunk to yourself, gently unraveling it as you go.
Working with ladders can be harmful. I've heard a lot of dreadful stories, especially around Christmas time. I follow this trouble-free, but effective rule and it saved my life many times: "If you're even thinking about falling when doing a job, DON'T DO IT!" It's not worth it just to hang some lights. The holidays is about being with family, not making your house be prominent the most on the block.
And if you're still anxious or don't have the time to hang the lights - call a professional LED Christmas light contractor. They do it much faster, safer, and the job will look better too.
