Who Exactly Introduced Our Stunning Christmas Lights?

Soon after Thomas Edison developed the light bulb that could be utilized for commercial utilization, the idea of Christmas tree lights was one of the primary applications. Before the breakthrough, electricity candles were used as christmas lights. The dangers of this were of primary concern at that time.

LED light bulbs

As time progressed, the candles had glass covers, or even metal lanterns having small wicks and were suspended on the trees like ornaments on Christmas trees. Imagine doing that this day and age: a recipe for a roasted house.

Even with the hazards, it took many years for holiday tree lamps to become commercially available in the market. It's said that the concept of these lights was introduced by Edison's assistant, Edward Johnson: he had the bulbs made specially for his house and he presented his Christmas tree lights at his residential home in New York City.

From these humble beginnings of the inventors, the Christmas tree light fittings went through many improvements before General Electric announced them commercially. The early days of light bulbs on Christmas trees were night lights strung together to make long strings of lights. You may have seen these in some old time pictures. Those big bulbs that would crack into a million bits when they hit the floor.

Christmas mini lights were introduced in the mid to late 1970's. There have been many adjustments to the original christmas lights but for the most part they are the same. Product sales have climbed as application for these lamps and have improved to not just fixing up the tree, but also used as outside Christmas lights. Icicle lights are typically the most popular and are seen on most residences that use open air lighting at Christmas time. Outdoor attractive lighting has become one of the most popular types and tend to be somewhat of a competition among neighbors. Many people will use animation-enhanced Christmas lights that can create thrilling views and some are even animated.

The majority of the lights used at present are led lights. They are durable and if one light goes out, the whole string will still run, not like bygone days, if one light was out, you had to go through one after the other to determine the bad bulb. And with some holiday light strings of 100 or more, it was certainly not a fun task. So be sure before you spend money on your next set of christmas lights that it says on the package that you don't have to replace a bad bulb to make the complete string of lights work.
