One of the best parts about this holiday is decorating the Xmas tree. It is so much fun to ask your kids to give a hand in Xmas tree decorations. Children would undoubtedly appreciate using several festoons and Xmas lights. The following guidelines and suggestions will help you a lot when it is time to use these kind of lights.
1. Avoid using nails or staple guns to fix lights on your Xmas tree. These kind of sharp objects might break the wire and the consequences could be serious. Any exposed wire is a big hazard to all the friends and loved ones. Hence, be very careful whenever you're fixing the lights. Try to use plastic clips, join wires and such fasteners that are secure and specially made for the lights. You can get special insulated staples that are safe to use on lights and wires as well. Go for such safer alternatives. Ensure that the Xmas lights are in safe working condition and the wires are unexposed.
2. Go through all the safety instructions on the lights very well before you use them. It might seem too much for a holiday, but you will agree that the protection of the family members and friends is important than anything else.
3. If you plan to buy lights for your Xmas tree, go for the LED Xmas lights option. These lights are environment-friendly, not too expensive and brighter compared to other lights. In addition, these lights are quite durable.
4. Whether you have purchased new lights or you use last years' lights, check if the bulbs are functioning properly and that the wires fully unexposed. The sockets must be okay and the wires should be in proper working condition.
5. Close all the sockets using an utility tape. The tape will assure you that the connections are unbroken. It will obstruct water or any liquid from entering into the electric points.
6. Limit the number of extension wires you use. These could be a threat. You do not desire any circuit overload or a power failure in festival time. Hence, connect the lights as per the safety instructions of the supplier.
7. Take all safeguards any time you're actually fixing the lights on the tree. Use a wooden ladder and wear rubber slippers. Keep little ones clear off while you're doing electric work. Ensure that you stay well away from the main power line.
8. You must keep the Xmas lights on only when you're awake at home. When you go out, you must turn them off. You must always be present when lights are on.
9. Even when the festival at what time you have visitors, check if all lights are unaffected and all connections are okay. This little inspection will take only a few minutes, but they could save big accidents.
10. After the festival, you must take out the lights carefully and pack them properly for later use. Do not leave extension chords or wires in the house. Pick them up and place them at a safe place.
