What Should You Buy Your Girlfriend For Christmas When Your Relationship Is On The Rocks

Having a relationship that's on the rocks at Christmas can be a tricky situation – especially if it's a relationship you're interested in saving. It can feel like the pressure is really on to find the right gift but you aren't even sure what your gift should be saying at this point in time. Here are a few things to keep in mind that should help you make the best possible decision at a confusing time like this.

Clarify Your Relationship

If things are floundering and everyone is annoying the ten ton elephant in the corner it's time to seek some clarity in the relationship. Sit down with your girlfriend and have a conversation about where the relationship is right now and what you'd like to see different in one day, one week, one month, six months, and one year.

The second half of that conversation needs to include things you'd like to do, together, to get your relationship where you want it to be. Here's the kicker though. In order for this to be an effective tool for building your relationship you both have to participate in the ideas, the goals, and the work required to make it happen.

Clarifying your relationship, admitting there are problems, and working to identify the problems and solutions will do a lot to make your relationship stronger and last longer. If you continue to ignore them, there aren't enough Christmas presents on the planet to make it work.

Most importantly, if you don't talk about the problems you're having you'll never be able to solve them. You have to talk to each other about the things that are causing friction in your relationship. That's all there is to it.

Ask her What she Wants

If money is tight, set a spending limit on gifts for each other and ask her for ideas and suggestions. She can probably give you a few along the way and she's probably been dropping hints for about five months now.

Pay attention to what she tells you she likes when you're in the store together. That's her way of saying 'Hey, I want this!' Figure out which things really make her eyes glaze over. Those are the ones that will make her happiest. Just remember that this is about you giving her something because you love her and think she'll like it and not because you're trying to buy her back.

Presents will never work to get your ex back but you can use them to help show her that you are paying attention.
