Do Christians Require To Celebrate Christmas
The Bible never commands us to celebrate Christmas or observe any other festival allegedly borrowed from traditional Pagans. Are we able to then, as followers of Jesus Christ indulge in an increasingly commercialised and mundane Holiday?It is right that many Pagan Holidays occurred in the month of December. Most all the states surrounding the Mediterranean Sea held festivals celebrating the Winter Solstice. The Winter Solstice according to the Julian calendar was December 25th.
It is indeed fact that by choosing December 25th, the Church selected a date where worship of false deities was performed. What is often misstated or wholly ignored is the Churches intention in choosing this date. The Church by choosing the solstice was able to line up a festival to rival the Pagan festivals, that has just about completely exterminated the celebrations to these false Gods. The bible never immediately states that we are to mark the birth of our Lord.
In contrast to the Ten Commandments which are explicit, A few individuals believe their is an implicit directive to celebrate Jesus birth. Here are some evidence of the Angels ' response to the birth of the Christ in Luke ; Suddenly a great firm of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying, "Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace to men on whom his favour rests." This type of party of Yuletide would be idolatrous. Our party of Yuletide should take on the disposition of the Angels and shepherds. As Christians our party must be one of amazement, wonder, gratitude and joy. Our party is to be a steady daily party of one of the greatest moments in redeeming history. Until He comes again we should celebrated His first incarnation in a manner suggest by an unknown song writer in round the eleventh or 12th century.
