A Glance On The Hue And Black-and-White Laser Brother HL-4040CN Printer
The Brother HL-4040CN printer with Brother MFC-4040CN toner, is flexible enough for installation at home or in a small workplace. It's a fast performer, able to churn out both color and monochrome prints. Because it employs laser technology, it's possible to enjoy documents with professional quality while keeping the prints per page cost to a minimum.
Residing within it is a NEC VR5500 processor with a speed of 300MHz. This allows the machine to produce as many as 21 pages per minute in monochrome or color with replacement toner. Likewise, the first page is already out in 16 to 17 seconds. These speeds, however, may vary with actual use depending on factors like the document size or the configuration of the computer used. Warm up time takes only 33 seconds (from sleep mode) or 37 seconds (from power on), fast enough so you don't have to wait for a long time to get the job started.
Texts come clean and sharp while graphics come detailed, thanks to the 2400 x 600 dpi (dots per inch) resolution used. It's good enough to yield professional-looking documents for use at home or in a small workplace. Brochures, reports, presentations and others end up impressively produced as expected from a laser.
Media handling capacity present allows you to be more productive. You may use either the standard paper tray (250-sheet capacity) or the multi-purpose tray (50-sheet capacity). Media types supported are regular paper, bond paper, labels and envelopes. Media sizes compatible with the standard paper tray include letter, legal, executive, B6, B5, A6 and A5. Other than these sizes, the multi-purpose tray can also work on custom ones (2.75 x 4.57 inches to 8.5 x 14.0 inches).
The machine comes pre-installed with a 64MB memory. An expansion slot is available that's compatible with a 144-pin S0-DIMM memory, so you may have it upgraded to as high as 512MB for more complex tasks. Printer language used is PCL 6 which contains a total of 66 scalable fonts, 12 bitmap fonts and 13 bar codes.
In hooking up this printer to a network, there's the integrated 10/100 Base-TX Ethernet port. A hi-speed USB 2.0 port is also provided for use with a single computer. Thanks to this fitted USB port, it's possible to directly print PDF and JPEG files directly from a USB flash memory without switching on the computer. What's more, photos found in a PictBridge-enabled digital camera can also be printed by plugging it in.
Starter toner kits are included with the purchase. Cyan, yellow and magenta toners can yield as many as 1500 pages each (at 5 percent coverage). Black toner, on the other hand, is capable of producing up to 2500 pages (at 5 percent coverage). The manufacturer suggests that genuine toners be used for best results, available from many online and land-based sellers.
The form factor of the Brother HL-4040CN printer with MFC-4040CN toner, has a dimension of 16.5 x 18.7 x 12.5 inches (width x depth x height) and it tips the scale at 64.2 pounds. Features such as watermark, ID, booklet, date and time, and N-in-1 printing make this machine an indispensable home and small workplace tool that uses replacement toner. There's also a three-color back-lit LCD and well-organized buttons to simplify the operation of this laser machine, conveniently located on the top panel for easy access with use of replacement toner.
