A New Teenagers Celebration With Gaming
We recently welcomed a new teenager into our home. After a little thought we came up with what we hoped would be a great way to celebrate the occasion. We could turn our home into an arcade. The theme of the party was going to be go big or go home, and we decided we would go big.
The first thing we would need was going to be some video game platforms, and it was not going to be good enough to only have one, we would have to get a Nintendo Wii, an Xbox 360 Kinect and a Playstation move along with a variety of games for the kids to play and some televisions for them to play on.
There was no need for me to worry about how we would get the platforms for gaming and the televisions to play them on. I could not have been more wrong about that. I had bought a Nintendo system several years before. I contacted a video game store and asked them if they had the systems to rent and found out they did not have the Xbox Kinect because it was to new and since the Xbox 360 Kinect release date had just passed it would be a while for them to start renting them but they did have titles available for all three of the platforms and it would just be a matter of finding a store that had the titles that I wanted. We did not let that stop us from getting all three platforms. We decided to talk to some of my son’s friends and borrow the platforms from them.
No video game would be complete without a good television to play it on. We were up to date technologically in the house and had two decent high definition televisions. There was room for one television that would outdo them all. We were able to lease a television that was bigger than I ever imagined, seventy-three inches, and it was delivered before the party. We had to lease the television for at least thirty days because of the policies of the rental company. It made watching television that month a whole new experience for the entire family. My wife hated the idea, but it had to be done.
We prepared the house for the onslaught of teenage gamers. The local video store was one of the places that we found some games that the kids would enjoy. We invited a bunch of my son’s friends over for the sleepover and said that they could bring anything they wanted to play on the game platforms. Our home also had other gaming consoles that we no longer used but were still able to work. We turned our home into a modern day arcade that was full of systems to play with. There was plenty for everyone to play.
I never expected to see the wide array of gaming accessories that the people carried through the door of our home. There seemed to be no end to the extras for the consoles and games. It was hard to believe that you had sporting good equipment and racing wheels for the different games. There was also a wide variety of games to chose from for all of the platforms. There was enough to keep this group of kids occupied throughout the entire night.
I did not last the whole night. The kid’s did. They played games the entire night. The game play lasted until breakfast. When we returned the teenagers to their parents, I am sure that they looked very tired for the rest of the day. The good news is that the party was the talk of the school the next week.
