About 25% of people have been affected by glandular fever at least once. Epstein-Barr virus is what causes the mononucleosis infectious or also known as the Glandular fever. Usually, severe glandular fever symptoms are gone in 3 months or so. It is quite important for the patient to take plenty of rest from 2 to 3 weeks after the symptoms of glandular fever started. Many children can get the very contagious glandular fever before they reached their fifth birthday. It is very rare for the glandular fever to be causing complications and many children feel better in time. There is no medication available yet that fights against Epstein-Barr virus that causes the disease. It is best for a patient to drink water or fruit juices often when they are still suffering from glandular fever. Gargling of salt water will give you some relief from sore throat that may also be caused by glandular fever. You can’t get any relief from glandular fever by taking antibiotics as the fever is viral and not bacterial. 50% of reported cases of glandular fever are also suffering from swollen spleen. There are some people with glandular fever who has immune system malfunction that affects them years after the infection. Genetics may also show signs of whether a person is more vulnerable to getting glandular fever.
