2011. Year Is The Thirty Anniversary Apparations Of The Virgin Mary In Medjugorje
This year is the 30th anniversary of the Medjugorje apparitions and Joe Walsh Tours has trips from Dublin and Cork as reported irishtimes.com.
Medjugorje is one of the villages of the Western Herzegovina municipality of Citluk in the previous Yugoslavia. The name Medjugorje is Slavic and means "area between 2 mountains". This real life story happens in the Bijakovici section of Medjugorje. On the afternoon of June twenty-four, 1981, two girls, Ivanka Ivankovic, age fifteen, and Mirjana Dragicevic, age sixteen, were coming back home from a walk. Looking toward the hill called Crnica, Ivanka saw a bright silhouette of a woman. She said to Mirjana, "It is the Gospa!" ( Our Lady ).
On June 25, the 2 girls returned to the hill with 4 others. Their names are, Vicka Ivankovic, age sixteen, Ivan Dragivevic, age sixteen, Maria Pavlovic, age sixteen and Jakov Colo, age 10. A figure in white was calling them to come up the hill. The kids were somehow transported in some puzzling way to a beautiful Woman who calls herself, the Queen of Peace. The Lady gives messages to the seers for the entire world. To date, the Queen of Peace has left thousands of messages. At first, the messages were almost everyday. Now, for the past one or two years, they come on the 25th of every month.
The idealists describe Our Woman as pretty beyond words ; radiant with holiness. Her conversations with the youngsters have taken the type of motherly sensitivity and love, and she has taken the task of both mother and catechist in advising and directing their lives. She greets them with, "Praised be Jesus, my dear children." At the end of the apparition she is saying, "Go in peace, my dear children." She appears to the 6 idealists as a 3-dimensional real image and always appears among brilliant flashes of light. Her appearances often occur about 6:40 pm every day. In Medjugorje, thousands of people come daily at this time to participate in the event with prayer, song, the rosary and the Mass, which is sometimes celebrated by thirty or more clergymen. The entire evening service lasts about 3 hours. And this has been happening daily since 1981!
In the apparitions, the idealists don't react to light, they don't hear any material sound, they don't react to being touched. They've been subjected to many systematic tests even during the apparitions, and the observations are well documented. While with Our Lady, they feel they are outside space-time.
Our Lady commenced imparting systems to the idealists in Medjugorje extraordinarily early on. She has informed the idealists that every one of them would receive 10 techniques. Our Lady has imparted these strategies to the 6 idealists gradually over these past 18 years. 3 idealists have received all 10, and afterward, they have stopped having the daily apparition with Our Woman. The other 3 each have nine.
The secrets pertain to the idealists themselves, to the Church, to the sign, to all humanity, and to everybody, and to the whole world and to Medjugorje. The ninth and tenth secrets are grave matters. They're a chastisement for the sins of the planet. The punishment is unavoidable as we cannot expect the conversion of the world. The chastisement can be mitigated by requests and penance. It cannot be suppressed. An evil which threatened the world, according to the seventh secret, had been eliminated through prayer and fasting according to Mirjana.
Local Church leaders sometimes feel they must keep Medjugorje under "wraps" till formal Church approval is given. However , Rome has established for itself a totally different pastoral reply; a response of support instead of distance. The support, naturally, is low keyed and temporary, in order not to short cut the continuing process that will lead directly to a last decisive judgement. The process, historically, has only granted full recognition to world-scale apparitions when they have come to their conclusion. FATIMA was officially recognised 13 years after, and GUADALUPE 200 years after.

Americus $2.95 In less than a year, Lawrence Ferlinghetti won a lifetime achievement award from the Author's Guild, received the Frost Medal from the Poetry Society of America, was elected to the American Academy of Arts and Letters, and celebrated the 50th anniversary of his renowned City Lights Bookstore. Now, instead of resting on these many laurels, the elder statesman of American poetry lights out for the territories with Book I of his own born-in-the-U.S.A. narrative, Americus. Describing his work as part documentary, part public pillow-talk, part personal epic....a descant, a canto unsung, a banal history, a true fiction, lyric and political..., Ferlinghetti merges certain universal texts, snatches of song, words or phrases, murmuring of love or hate, from Lotte Lenya to the latest soul singer, sayings and shibboleths from Yogi Berra to the National Anthem and the Gettysburg Address or the Ginsberg Address, that haunt our nocturnal imagination.... This sit-up-and-take-notice work breaks new ground in the grand tradition of Whitman, Williams, Olson and Pound, as Ferlinghetti stalks our literary and political landscapes, past and present, to articulate the unique voice of America and create an autobiography of our collective American consciousness. Born to Italian parents in Yonkers, New York in 1919, Lawrence Ferlinghetti served in the navy during WWII and received degrees from the U. of North Carolina, Columbia and the Sorbonne in Paris. Since 1953 he has been the owner and publisher of City Lights Books in San Francisco. |

Once There Was a Way: Photographs of the Beatles $29.95 The Beatles are always in the news and in our hearts. February 2004 marks the 40th anniversary of the Beatles' first trip to America, an historic event that was captured by the young photojournalist Harry Benson.Benson was commissioned to accompany the Beatles to Paris in January 1964, where he took his famous photograph of the pillow fight the night they learned that “I Want to Hold Your Hand” had climbed to number one on the U.S. pop charts. He was with them on February 7, when they stepped out of their plane in New York and into the pandemonium of Beatlemania, American-style. In Miami, he introduced the Beatles to Muhammad Ali, and later that year he covered the filming of A Hard Day's Night. He was with them in Chicago in 1966, when John Lennon was quoted as saying that the Beatles were more famous than Jesus Christ, and covered their last tour as a band. He documented the eye of the hurricane: four guys in their twenties at the center of the known universe. This handsome, large-format book is a record of those amazing times. Author Bio: Harry Benson has had more than 30 one-man exhibitions of his work and has published numerous books, most recently Abrams' The President & Mrs. Reagan and Harry Benson: 50 Years in Pictures. He was twice named magazine photographer of the year by the University of Missouri School of Journalism and the National Press Photographers' Association and was twice the recipient of the Leica Medal of Excellence. |
