The What When and Why of Anniversary Rings
In modern culture, it is not uncommon to see women who wear not only a wedding ring or engagement ring on their finger, but also an anniversary ring or eternity ring. Anniversary rings are given by husbands to their wives to commemorate a special date, which may vary between couples.
Anniversary rings: A brief explanation
An Anniversary Band is simply any ring that is given to mark an anniversary. There are a few different styles that are typically used for these occasions. One is the eternity ring, which is completely encircled with gems. The most commonly chosen style is a simple band that matches the original engagement ring or wedding ring, with a row of diamonds or gems across the top. Also popular are three-stone rings.
It is up to the couple to decide if they would prefer diamonds or gems. Some go for diamonds to complement their engagement ring and wedding ring. Others find creative ways to incorporate birthstones for months that bear significance in their personal history, be it the month in which they held their wedding, the birth months of the couple or their children, or something else.
When to give an anniversary ring:
There isn't a set time or reason for giving an anniversary ring. It might be given on the first anniversary of a couple's wedding, or the 23rd anniversary. Usually the cost of these rings means that couples tend to buy them only on very special anniversaries, such as 10th, 20th, 25th or 50th. Other occasions which might be celebrated with an anniversary ring include the day of the couple's first kiss, the day of their engagement, a time when they experienced a breakthrough in their marriage, or their first child's birth.
How they are worn:
There are no hard and fast rules about which finger one should wear an anniversary ring on. Some women prefer to wear it on the fourth finger of their left hand, alongside their bridal set. Others prefer to wear it on their right hand, especially if the anniversary ring is very ornate and would clash with the rings on the left hand. Sometimes the original wedding rings become old and worn, or it will be decided to keep them as a family heirloom, in which case they might be replaced altogether.
Precautions to take in the care of your anniversary ring:
To keep the ring in good condition, there are a few tips that one should keep in mind. To avoid the occurrence of nicks and scratches or wear, the ring should not be worn whilst cleaning the house, or while doing any harsh activities that may expose the ring to rough conditions. It is important to ensure that the ring is stored separately from other jewelry, and to regularly clean it with a a soft cloth and a mild cleanser.
