A chilling story of modern terrorism from the grandmaster of international intrigue. "T he Day of the Jackal," "The Dogs of War," "The Odessa File"-the books of Frederick Forsyth have helped define the international thriller as we know it today. Combining meticulous research with crisp narratives and plots as current as the headlines, Forsyth shows us the world as it is in a way that few have ever been able to equal. And the world as it is today is a very scary place. When British and American intelligence catch wind of a major Al Qaeda operation in the works, they instantly galvanize- but to do what? They know nothing about it: the what, where, or when. They have no sources in Al Qaeda, and it’s impossible to plant someone. Impossible, unless . . . The Afghan is Izmat Khan, a five-year prisoner of GuantAnamo Bay and a former senior commander of the Taliban. The Afghan is also Colonel Mike Martin, a twenty-five-year veteran of war zones around the world-a dark, lean man born and raised in Iraq. In an attempt to stave off disaster, the intelligence agencies will try to do what no one has ever done before-pass off a Westerner as an Arab among Arabs-pass off Martin as the trusted Khan. It will require extraordinary preparation, and then extraordinary luck, for nothing can truly prepare Martin for the dark and shifting world into which he is about to enter. Or for the terrible things he will find there. Filled with remarkable detail and compulsive drama, "The Afghan" is further proof that Forsyth is truly master of suspense.

This Year Is Very Important For Medjugorje Because Is 30th Anniversary Apparations Of The Virgin Mary

This year is the 30th anniversary of the Medjugorje apparitions and Joe Walsh Tours has trips from Dublin and Cork as reported irishtimes.com.

Medjugorje is one of the towns of the Western Herzegovina municipality of Citluk in the former Yugoslavia. The name Medjugorje is Slavic and means "area between 2 mountains". This true story happens in the Bijakovici section of Medjugorje. On the afternoon of June twenty-four, 1981, two girls, Ivanka Ivankovic, age fifteen, and Mirjana Dragicevic, age sixteen, were coming back home from a walk. Looking toward the hill called Crnica, Ivanka saw a bright outline of a girl. She said to Mirjana, "It is the Gospa!" ( Our Lady ).

On June 25, the 2 girls returned to the hill with 4 others. Their names are, Vicka Ivankovic, age sixteen, Ivan Dragivevic, age 16, Maria Pavlovic, age sixteen and Jakov Colo, age ten. A figure in white was calling them to come up the hill. The children were somehow transported in some mysterious way to a gorgeous Lady who calls herself, the Queen of Peace. The Lady gives messages to the seers for the whole world. To date, the Queen of Peace has left thousands of messages. At first, the messages were almost everyday. Now, for the previous one or two years, they come on the 25th of each month.

The visionaries describe Our Lady as beautiful beyond words ; glowing with holiness. Her conversations with the youngsters have taken the type of motherly sensitiveness and love, and she's taken the role of both mum and catechist in advising and directing their lives. She greets them with, "Praised be Jesus, my dear children." At the end of the apparition she says, "Go in peace, my dear children." She seems to the 6 visionaries as a 3-dimensional real image and always appears amid brilliant flashes of light. Her appearances sometimes happen about 6:40 pm each day. In Medjugorje, thousands of people come daily at this time to take part in the event with prayer, song, the rosary and the Mass, which is typically celebrated by 30 or more monks. The whole evening service lasts about three hours. And this has been happening daily since 1981!

During the apparitions, the visionaries don't respond to light, they don't hear any worldly sound, they don't respond to being touched. They've been subject to many systematic tests even in the apparitions, and the findings are well documented. While with Our Lady, they feel they're outside space-time.

Our Lady began imparting systems to the visionaries in Medjugorje extremely early on. She has said to the visionaries that each one of them would receive ten secrets. Our Lady has imparted these secrets to the 6 visionaries progressively over these past eighteen years. 3 visionaries have received all ten, and subsequently, they have stopped having the daily apparition with Our Lady. The other three each have nine.

The systems refer to the visionaries themselves, to the Church, to the sign, to all humanity, and to everyone, and to the whole world and to Medjugorje. The ninth and tenth secrets are grave matters. They seem to be a chastisement for the sins of the Earth. The punishment is unavoidable as we can't expect the conversion of the whole world. The censure can be lessened by requests and penance. It cannot be suppressed. An evil which threatened the world, according to the seventh secret, had been eliminated thru prayer and fasting according to Mirjana.

Local Church leaders sometimes feel they must keep Medjugorje under "wraps" until formal Church approval is given. However , Rome has established for itself a very different pastoral reply; a reply of support instead of distance. The support, naturally, is low keyed and provisional, in order not to short cut the continuing process that will lead on to a final decisive judgement. The process, historically, has only granted full recognition to world-scale apparitions when they have come to their conclusion. FATIMA was officially recognised thirteen years after, and GUADALUPE two hundred years after.

Massoud: An Intimate Portrait of the Legendary Afghan Leader

Massoud: An Intimate Portrait of the Legendary Afghan Leader

$14.59

Author and translator Marcela Grad explores the life of the late Afghan leader, Ahmad Shah Massoud, through personal stories told to her by those who accompanied Massoud during his struggle to liberate Afghanistan from the Soviet invasion and the Taliban, and by others from around the world who knew and helped Massoud. Ahmad Shah Massoud was assassinated by Al Qaeda suicide bombers posing as journalists just two days before the 9/11 terrorist attacks. It is widely believed that Massoud was killed to help pave the way for 9/11. Today, Massoud is considered the national hero of Afghanistan and the September 9th anniversary of his death is a national holiday there. Grad spent over four years interviewing a diverse group of Afghans who were commanders, members of the mujahideen, personal secretaries, envoys, women of the resistance, and members of Massoud’s family.
